How To Take The Perfect Champagne Popping Picture For Graduation!

It’s the classic picture everyone wants: the champagne popping picture! This is such a fun photo to take, and it perfectly captures the joy of graduating! Since this is a picture you really only get a few shots to take, you want to make sure you get it absolutely perfect. Lucky for you, I’ve perfected how to get a flawless champagne popping photo so you can always remember the moment! I’d recommend this technique because it allows you to get multiple takes, so you can take some shots as a group and some on your own using the same bottle of champagne. Follow the steps below to achieve this classic graduation photo!

1. DO NOT shake up your champagne! You don’t want it to explode when you open it!

2. Carefully twist off the cork (don’t pop it with your thumb) and then cover the top with your thumb to keep the pressure inside.

3. Get in position, and then with your thumb still covering the top, start to shake the bottle.

4. Move your thumb a little to the side so you’re only covering about half of the opening, and the champagne will begin to spray everywhere!

5. Cover the opening completely with your thumb to stop the spray, get into position again, and then repeat the 2 steps above as many times as you want!

Ta-da! You have the perfect champagne popping picture! This iconic, classic graduation photo isn’t one you want to miss out on, so be sure to pick up a bottle of champagne (preferably a cheap one) before your session.

And pro tip, after you take your photos spraying the champagne, take a few pictures drinking what’s left of it out of the bottle! This makes for a fun series of photos to have. Enjoy, and I can’t wait to take some amazing photos!
